This is a common question from customers who still run R2003.
R5000 requires an operating system update to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, but the operating system recommended to run R2003 is Red Hat 3U7. The normal recommendation for a production R5000 upgrade is for users to switch completely to R5000 and no longer access R2003 apps and data. But in certain conditions, such as a test environment, it may be necessary to run a dual R2003 and R5000 environment from the same work station. It is possible to upgrade a current work station to Red Hat 5 and still run R2003, although some issues may be encountered with DepthTeam Express and GeoProbe, and it is not an officially supported platform (R2003 on Red Hat 5) by Landmark. R5000 data migration starts with a general analysis of the R2003 projects and seismic data. The PreR5000 utility provided free by Landmark is used to analyze OpenWorks and SeisWorks R2003 projects and seismic data. The PreR5000 utility is not an R5000 application and is designed to validate the data in OpenWorks and SeisWorks R2003 projects before the R5000 upgrade.
